18 middle and senior-level government officials from Laos, who participated in a training session in Hunan, visited Xiangxi Prefecture from October 14 to 15.
They visited Shibadong Village of Huayuan County, and Ganxi Village of Baojing County to learn about local efforts to advance rural revitalization, grassroots governance, rural environment governance.
In Shibadong Village, they listened to the stories of poverty alleviation, and exchanged friendship gifts such as Miao embroidery works and elephant wood carvings.
“The poverty alleviation experience of Shibadong Village is worth learning from. We will bring these valuable experience back to Laos and make the lives of the people happier. China and Laos are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. We hoped that both sides can further strengthen communication and exchanges, and promote common development between the two countries,” said one of the officials from Laos.
In 2018, Boungnang Vorachith, president of Laos then, visited Shibadong Village, opening a new chapter of communication on targeted poverty alleviation between Shibadong Village and Laos.
On November 3, 2023, Shibadong Village established a relationship of “International Sister Villages” with a village in Luang Prabang of Laos. Since then, the two sides have conducted mutual visits regularly to share experience of poverty reduction and development.
They help each other in industrial development, rural construction, grassroots governance, and sales of characteristic products, becoming models for inheriting the traditional friendship between China and Laos in the new era.
